Pt. Mugu and Mt. Shasta
On August 8th, a group of friends got together to hike the La Jolla Canyon and Mugu Peak.  The hike was a great conditioning hike, 9 miles round trip and 1,500 ft elevation gain; it was a success with all 9 of us getting to the top of Mugu Peak (the steep hard way!)  Some of us had more energy than others and danced salsa on top of the peak!  I'm glad everyone had a lot of fun and I look forward to another fun hike in the future.  Click on the link to check out the pictures from Mugu Peak.

On August 14-15, I climbed Mt Shasta for the second time with Marie P.  I knew this was going to be quite an adventure because we were planning to start the climb at night without moonlight (new moon) and cover this entire trip within 48 hours.  We drove to Shasta from LA at 6AM Saturday morning, got there at 4PM and after getting everything ready we had just enough time to get 2 hours of sleep before our 10PM start time. It took us 9 hours to climb up and 6 hours to climb down; loosing the trail for 1 hour and negotiating (slipping) on scree for 2 hours made the climb longer than expected, but still considered a fast pace overall.  We were the first to summit that day and except for one other person, the only ones to climb this mountain in one day.  Marie made hot chocolate and Russian pastries to celebrate at the top...very nice!  After getting down and doing some shopping, we left at 4PM Sunday and arrived back in LA at 2AM on Monday morning; what a long weekend!  Check out the pictures from
Mt Shasta.
