Garrett turbo upgrade vs the 20g?
Most people that choose to upgrade their turbos will end up going with the 16g as it is much cheaper and a very streetable turbo. On the other hand us DSMers who are interested in 400+ hp you need to go with a much bigger turbo. The Garrett T3/T04E and the Mitsubishi 20g are the only 2 logial choices.
I will first start with the Garrett. The most popular one is the T3/T04E which will produce about 400-550hp depending on the trim you choose. The Garrett has more available options and can be built with caramic ball bearings to assist in fast spool. Here is a break down of cost on 2 popular ways to install a T3/T04E:

Now on to the 20g turbo install. The 20g isn't a bolt in affair but it is more so than the Garrett. Here is a list of parts:
