Front Mount Intercooler Install
I have put together some helpful pics and steps to install your Griffin Intercooler on a 2G. Here is pic I took of all of the parts I needed for the install. I used 3 u-bends for the Intercooler install and one half of one u-bend for the hard intaker pipe I made for my car.
Here is a picture of how I mounted my Intercooler. I mounted a piece of dexangle to the power steering support loop and drilled/tapped a hole into the upper tank of the intercooler. I pushed the power steering loop behind the support bar and had to pull the PS loop to the driverside slightly to make the core center in the nose of my 97. To trim the bumper roughly cut 1& 1/2" off of the entire bottom section of the bumper. It is really deep so the portion cut off doesn't comprimise the strength.
Here is a preliminary shot of fitting the lower pipe. Basically it consists of a 1/2" leg off of the intercooler tank(lower) into a 90 deg bend, roughly 6" straight pipe, another 90deg bend toward the J-pipe, another 6" section finally into a 90 deg bend up to the j-pipe where it connects with a 2.25" X 3" turbo hose.
Here is a pic of both of the pipes finished and clamped onto the intercooler. As you can see the upper pipe consists of a 45 deg bend down to avoid the bumper bracket into a 90 deg bend going into the engine bay as shown in the next pic.
Here is a pic of the connection of the lower portion of the upper pipe as it connects to the upper portion of the upper pipe(with the overflow tank removed for the pic).
Here is a picture of my finished upper pipe and BOV. The pipe comes out of the throttle body elbow and does a soft 45 deg bend down into a roughly 10" pipe where it stops under the stock overflow tank then into another 45 deg bend where it connects to the lower portion of the upper intercooler pipe.
Here is a pic of my hard intake pipe. Basically I cut off the flex secion of the stock MAS to Turbo hose and installed a 4" section of pipe into roughly a 40 deg bend ending 1" away from the turbo inlet. I uses a 2.25" piece of turbo hose to connect the hard intake pipe and the turbo inlet.
Here is a pic of the J-pipe I made and the XBC boost controller I am running.
Here are two pics of the intercooler installed on the car with the bumper back in place. I like the 24" core on the 95+ but beware there is some bumper and bumper mods needed to make the core fit in the curved noses of the 2g's.
