Welcome to My Pond Restoration Site!
Please excuse the advertisement. It came with the site.
Anouncement:Yesterday (July 8 2002) I caught the first fish from my pond. It was a smal Bull Head about 6 inches long. When I figure out how to put pictures on my site I'll put one of the fish.
The Story: Hello my name is Philip Streich and I am 11 years old. I just moved to Platteville, Wisconsin from Princeton, New Jersey. Now I live on a 450 acre farm and it's very different. In New Jersey we had huge houses really close to each other and very small backyards, but in Wisconsin, whew, you cant even see the end of your backyard or your neighbor's house.
There is a pond about five acres big right in front of our house. My mom had an idea about stocking the pond with some small fish. I was skeptical until a neihbor told me there used to be trout in it. Now, my hopes are sky high.
I set-up this web site as a tool for advice for me and a posible educational expirience for you. This page is a copy of all of our information about the pond and about our adventure through restoring the pond to its trout bearing state(if it turns out that trout is the right kind of fish for our pond).
The Pond: As you know its a fair sized pond and its a mess. I thought that if I could tell you more about the pond then it would be more interesting. The pond was made by a little spring eventually running into a natural valley. The spring is about 1/2 of a mile from the pond on our neighbors property. The fact that the spring is on the neighbors property is bad because we dont know what is happening to it. The pond wasnt really a pond untill about twenty years ago an embankment was made across the valley for a driveway. Now here are some facts about the pond.

The greatest depth is 15-20 feet.

The width of the pond is about 150 yards.

The length is about 300 yards.

The pond is completely surrounded by bluegrass pasture.

Cows can freely enter the pond wenever they want.

Cropland comes very close to smoe parts of the pond.

Notill farming methods are being used.

Crops are soybeans and corn.
