"baguio"

Baguio is the summer capital of the Philippines and a great favorite among all visitors, both local and foreign. Located high on a moutain in northern Luzon, the weather is cool the whole year round and pine trees are everywhere. It is a 5-6 hour drive through the central plains of Luzon, then another hour through zig-zag roads up the mountains. Depending on which zig-zag road is open, it's a toss-up between seeing the mountain bust of the face of former President Marcos (via Marcos Hi-way) or a huge rock sculpture of a lion (via Kennon Road)...both visible on the road.

what to see?

As Baguio city isn't all that big a day will probably show you all the city sights. A normal starting point would be Burnham Park, with its gardens and flowers, it is also popular for biking and boating...closeby is the Capitol and Baguio Market selling fresh produce and handicrafts (itself an attraction)...then drive through Session Road, which is the main commercial are and at the end of the road is Baguio Cathedral. On the other side of the city, see Wright Park...then very close is Mansion House, the official Presidential residence...and proceed down the road to Mines View Park where you can have a nice views of mountains, enjoy some handicraft shopping and have your picture taken with nature tribesmen. About half an hour away is the Philippine Military Academy, the "West Poin" of our contry, on certain days, a silent drill is a main attraction.

what to do?

Besides shopping for handicrafts, golf is a majorattraction in Baguio due to its nice cool wether and challenging courses. There are two main golf courses, the main one is Club John Hay, the former rest and recreation station of U.S. military troops.
