Missions Trips that I'm Involved In
November 2004 - Samaritan's Purse and the island of Grenada
On November 7, 2004, I left for Grenada with a team from across Canada. The 7 day trip was made under the direction of Samaritan's Purse - Canada, an interdenominational relief organization that is committed to helping people and proclaiming Christ's name.
On September 7, 2004, Hurricane Ivan devastated the island nation of Grenada. This massive storm, the most powerful to hit the Caribbean in 10 years, struck with winds over 200 kms per hour. More that 90 percent of the houses on the island were destroyed, leaving two-thirds (60,000) of the population homeless and in desperate need of shelter, water and basic supplies.
While we were in Grenada, we were involved in labour-intensive construction work to help rebuild their lives. We also shared the love of Jesus Christ to the local people. This was an educational and cross-cultural opportunity that will benefit me for a lifetime.
We are all very excited to see how God used us for His will and purpose, as well as growing spiritually ourselves. We became aware of the culture and needs of the people of Grenada in order to truly understand them and witness Christ's love to them. This was a real faith-stretching experience as we learned to rely on God during anxious times.
Please visit my Grenada page for more information and photos of this trip.
February 2005 - Watoto Children's Ministries in Uganda
I will be going to Uganda to install solar lighting in the church and houses for Watoto Children's Ministries. Because Uganda is situated on the Equator, it gets dark at 6 pm and light at 6 am every day of the year. There is no electricity for Watoto so these solar panels will give them new opportunities to lengthen their days. Each home houses 8 orphaned children, who have lost their parents through war, famine and AIDS, and 1 surrogate mother. I count it a blessing and an honour to be able to do this but I cannot do it without your support whether financially or through prayer. I encourage you to give prayerful consideration to this project and if you feel led to support me financially then I accept it with humble gratitude. Please make cheques payable to "Midpark Christian Assembly" with a notation that it is for Marilyn Roberton, Watoto Uganda Trip. If you are unable to support me financially then I would ask that you still pray for me, the team that will be going, the project and especially for the children.
Please visit the Watoto website to learn more of this worthy and important cause. These children will grow up to be pastors, missionaries, teachers, doctors and who knows.... perhaps a future president of Uganda.
April 2005 - Samaritan's Purse and Beirut, Lebanon
In April of 2005 I will be going to Lebanon to help in the building of a seminary. Please pray for finances to come through for this trip. Pray for the people of Lebanon, for those who live in bondage, that God will open their hearts and minds to the gospel. Pray for unity in our group. The second way that you can help is financially. It costs approximately $3,400.00 for each person to go. If you can help in any way, I would appreciate your financial support.>
You can make cheques payable to "Samaritan's Purse - Canada" with a notation that it is for Marilyn Roberton - Beirut Seminary.
I thank you in advance and Praise God for His faithfulness.
Blessings,
Marilyn Roberton
