Parnu

Parnu is a small quite beautifull summer ressort with a nice beach and many many old-style dwelling houses to visit. The beach is still quite untouched by tourism. Only in summer, many Fins are coming over for spending a weekend in this summer ressort. It has been a famous vacation site even during the Soviet Union times.

How to get there

One can get to Parnu in a 2 hours bus ride from Tallinn for around 70 EEK. In 1999 a highway has been built, so it might take even less time by now. Therefore, Parnu is quite ideal for an one-day trip.

The richest and most stylish Baroque church in Estonia was built under the order by Empress Catherine II in 1764 - 1768 according to the design of the architect P. Yegorov. The construction was directed by Y. Yakovlev. The church has influenced the development of the entire clerical architecture of the Apostolic Orthodox church in the Baltic countries.

Town Hall

at 4 Uus St
The town hall was built in 1797 as a dwelling house of P. R. Harder, a merchant. After the death of the owner, the buildings were bought from the heirs according to the orders of Czar Alexander I who visited Parnu, and were rebuilt in 1819 to be used as a House of the Governor. After the liquidation of the fort, the building was given to the town. After the medieval Town hall was pulled down in 1839, the building was used as a Town Hall. The building is strictly classicistic. The Jugendstil extension with Neo-Gothic and Neo-Baroque traits at the corner was built in 1911 (architect W. Bockslaff).
