Day one - To Raton New Mexico
No particular reason for Raton being our first stop other than it seemed to be the most direct route to get us to Jackson's Hole, Wyoming. We originally planned to ride further west, but with the temperatures up over 100 deg. F, we decided it would make more sense to go this route. This is actually "day one and a half" as we decided to leave Dallas a little early. Originally were were going to put in a 563 mile day, by leaving the prior afternoon it turned into a 420 mile day. We started out Friday afternoon around 1:30pm and arrived at Wichita Falls around 5:00pm. It was interesting along the way how many people from different walks of like come up to chat as see where you are going. The route so far has taken us from Dallas TX, through Amarillo TX and into Raton New Mexico arriving at 3:00pm on the Saturday. Chloe was complaining of a sore back side and was glad to get to Raton.
I snapped this pic as we were heading out the door. Chloe all leathered up and ready to ride. Fortunately a cold front had just come through and the temps were in the low 90's. Nice way to start the ride.
This is what we saw for most of Friday afternoon, a mix of open land with a few trees scattered around, and flat... flat i tell you :)
We hit the road around 6:30am Saturday to get some miles under our belt before the heat of the day set in. As you can see still flat just less trees, this is farming country.
Mid afternoon, we stopped at a road side rest area, Chloe was complaining she couldn't feel her butt. I thought if you can't feel it we no longer have a problem. But that logic didn't work, so here we are. Just over the border into New Mexico.
Not sure what the mountains are behind, but this is just before we arrived in Raton NM. I hope this means we are at a new leg in the trip from a scenery perspective.
