Trench warfare became the most common use of fighting during World War one, it almost parallels guerilla tatics used during the civil war. These men were commonly used as front lines. Although it was effective, it was also very unsanitary and caused more deaths than it was probably worth. Many men died within the trenches and were piled one on top of the other, many diseases were created due to animals, odor, and lack of cleanliness.
