Last year Boon travelled extensivelly, picking up work in Milan and New York. His assignments have been a steady stream of glamour and hard work. The most exciting occurred recently atop of the BHP building in Melbourne where a Japanese client had Boon tend to a model perched right on the edge 'fifty thousand feet up'. Boon, although a strong personality and player in the industry in Melbourne, still maintains a strong relatioship with fashion created in WA."I try to inject other unknown designers and always Perth designers... su, Aurelio Costarella and Munk are favorites. Designers that do well here take into consideration - Melbourne is darker colours and more tailored. Perth designers do really well here, Sydney prefer the more glitzy". Boon has firmly established his new carreer in styling, but states he has his own fashion dilemas, finding it easier to dress the glitterati than knowing which Jean Colonna shirt he should throw on in the morning. Being surrounded by a diverse palette every day and having the power to pick and choose at his whim, you can't help think whether Boon will ever return to his own designing past. "If I had a business manager, one hundred thousand in the bank and someone that wanted to back me for five years, then hey, yeh I'd do it, but I love what i'm doing now... it suits me". |
