General Membership Meeting Minutes

                                                            14 August 2005

 

Post Commander Ray Jones convened the meeting at 10:07 A.M.

 

Roll Call of Officers: Commander Jones, First Vice Commander/Public Relations Officer Dennis Drazkowski, Second Vice Commander Jerry Bristle, Finance Officer Walt Howard, Chaplain John Welsh, Judge Advocate H.J. Hardy, Sergeant-at-Arms David Butler, Service Officer Ray Jones, Adjutant Larry Wade, Fil-Am Officer Ernesto Sabado(Absent), Historian Thomas Anderson(Absent), Canteen Managers Sean McHale(General) and Jerry Bristle(Kitchen), and Communications Officer(Vacant).

 

A motion was passed to accept the minutes of the 10 July 2005 General Membership Meeting subject to corrections.

 

Introduction of Guests and Prospective New Members: The following guests were introduced: Allan E. Coates, Sr., Allan B. Coates, Jr., Claudia S. Stewart, and Marelyn T. Melo. Larry W. Phillips was introduced as a Prospective New Member.

 

A Post Memorial(Post Everlasting) was performed for departed Post Member Leo Y. Stewart.

 

Finance Report: Adjutant Wade read the Monthly Financial Report for the Bar for the month of July 2005. He also read the Monthly Financial Report for the Restaurant for the month of July 2005. After that, he gave the report on the Post for the month of July 2005(The Landbank accounts: Government Securities, Peso Checking, and Dollar Savings. The BPI Peso Checking account). A motion was made and seconded to accept the Finance Report. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and the Report was approved subject to audit.

 

Membership Report: First Vice Commander Drazkowski(Membership Chairperson) reported that for Legion Year 2006 we have 133 Post Life Members, 17 Paid-up-for-Life members, and 23 Annual Members for a total of 173. Also, LY2006 membership cards are in. Post Life Members and Annual Members(paid-up for LY2006) can pick up their cards from Adjutant Wade.

 

Balloting on Applications: Larry W. Phillips, Dunbar Reed Jr., Michael Rhine, and Robert W. Welsh were balloted. A motion was made and seconded to accept them into the Post. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved.

 

Sick Call, Relief and Employment: Word came this morning that Post Life Member John Ford passed away last night(13 Aug – 8:00 P.M.). John had lung cancer. On August 3, 2005, Commander Jones and wife Charito, General Manager McHale and wife Cora, and Adjutant Wade had a nice visit with John at Total Life Care Medical Center in Olongapo City.

First Vice Commander Drazkowski and Adjutant Wade visited Post Life Member John Tatum at his residence on August 2. He is suffering from a type of skin cancer.

 

Post Service Officer’s Report: PSO Jones reported that Veteran Michael Marlowe Sherwood passed away on July 15, 2005. He lay in state at A.L. Post 123 from July 16-21. On July 20 at 2:00 P.M., VFW Post 2485 held their service for him at Post 123. Post 123 Representation: Adjutant Wade and General Manager McHale. On July 21, the body was taken to Manila for cremation.

Veteran Cosmo Damian Raneri passed away on July 31. He lay in state at his residence. On August 4, VFW Post 2485 performed the gravesite service at Clark Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. Post 123 Representation: Adjutant Wade.

Former Post 123 member Eugene Hermann passed away on August 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Veteran Jim Sage passed away on August 5, 2005. He lay in state at Indiongco Funeral Home. On August 11, VFW Post 2485 performed the gravesite service at Clark Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. Post 123 Representation: Adjutant Wade.

 

Unfinished Business:

  1. Post Constitution and By-Laws: These were supposed to be voted upon at this meeting, but in accordance with our By-Laws(Article IV, Section 9 and 9a), the Post Legal Committee shall review the Post Constitution and By-Laws and make recommendations to either accept them as they are or make amendments to them. Legionnaire Lafayette Donaldson and Second Vice Commander Jerry Bristle volunteered to assist Judge Advocate Hardy in reviewing them. The Committee’s recommendations will be heard and voted upon at the next scheduled General Membership Meeting(September 11, 2005).

 

  1. There is no progress to report on the status of the building/property on Malabanas Road. No meeting could be scheduled with the attorney due to his busy schedule. We will follow-up and try for an appointment this week.

 

  1. On Tuesday, August 16 Commander Jones and Kitchen Manager Jerry Bristle are scheduled to go to the Labor Board concerning the case with former Post employee Lorna Galves. Two things can happen. Either the case can be dismissed or Ms. Galves can obtain an attorney and take the case to court.

 

New Business:

  1. Angeles Faith Fellowship: This organization began utilizing our social hall on Sunday July 31 for their Service. The rental agreement is for Sundays from 8:00 A.M.Noon at P2,000.00 per week. An additional P250.00 will be charged to them effective today as they are renting the small dining room as their Sunday School.

 

  1. The Post Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees have approved a motion to purchase a rice cooker, two crockpots, and two chafing pans for the kitchen at a cost not to exceed P9,000.00. A motion was made and seconded to purchase these items. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved.

 

Good of the Legion:

1.      A Turkey Dinner Special for P175 follows the meeting. Then our Sunday Jam Session from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

 

2.      Vietnam Veterans of America Recruiting Social: Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. here at Post 123(Social Hall). A buffet will be served. Come out and support our sister organization.

 

3.      The Post has a football pool and also a World Series pool. Help support the cause by buying a few squares.

 

4.      Raffle tickets for the annual “AA” Roundup in October are available from the cashier. Tickets are P500 per book or P50 per ticket. Fifty percent(50%) of the proceeds will go for the Post 123 Christmastime Street Children Project. Two Hundred(200) children are expected to see “Santa” at Post 123 this coming December 3rd at 10:00 A.M.

 

5.      We plan on honoring/recognizing our Filipino Veterans who are members of Post 123 at the September 11, 2005 General Membership Meeting.
