Fun Facts about the Saints
-Hold their training camp at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi
-Since joining the league in 1967, the Saints have never won a conference championship or Super Bowl. They have two division championships (1991, 2000)
-In 1980, the Saints lost their first 14 games prompting the constantly loyal Saints fans to wear paper bags over their heads for the final games of the year.
-In 1970, Saints kicker Tom Dempsey hit a record setting 63 yard FG against the Lions. Only one kicker has tied this record (Jason Elam).
-The Saints logo is a "fleur-de-lis" which is a French iris flower. They chose this as a tribute to the powerful French influence that exists in the city of New Orleans as well as the state of Louisiana.
-Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was a Hollywood producer before he bought the Eagles in 1994.
-Lurie paid $195M dollars for the team in 1994 and the team is now estimated to be worth $1.024B by Forbes Magazine.
-Former Eagle Chuck Bednarik is known as one of the NFL's last "sixty-minute men" in that he played both offense and defense as a center and linebacker.
-Former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan is known for a lot of things, but one of the things not often brought up is his compassion. In 1988, Ryan released a future star in Cris Carter. Ryan was criticized until Carter revealed that Ryan cut him due to his problems with drugs and alcohol and to send a wake up call. Carter credits Ryan for turning his life around.
