| Philadelphia Chapter MOAA is one of 424 affiliated Chapters under 36 Regional Councils and the parent National Organization, The Military Officers Association of America, with headquarters in Alexandria, VA. National membership is about 400,000 strong. The members are Officers and Warrant Officers of the Military services, both retired and active duty and their eligible spouses. These include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin. and the Public Health Service. The purpose of this organization is: To inculcate and stimulate love of our country and the Flag; To defend the Honor, Integrity and supremacy of our National Government and the Constitution of the United States; To advocate Military Forces adequate for the defense of our Country; To foster the integrity and prestige of the United States Military forces; To further the education of children of Service personnel; To aid active and retired personnel of the various services from which our members are drawn; and their dependents and survivors; To present their rights and interests when service matters are under consideration usually in legislative circles. The Philadelphia Chapter is one of three in this immediate geographical area. It has about 200 members. The Chapter holds six yearly meetings, mostly in the spring and fall, since many retired officers go to warmer areas in the Winter and the beach and mountains in the Summer. Our meetings are held in local restaurants, since we have very few military installations active in this area. Most are evening meetings, with a dinner, music and a speaker or presentation suitable to the taste of Military Officers. Recently we have had great success in having impersonators of Benjamin Franklin and General George Washington in their uniform with all regalia. The attendance at these meetings is in the range of 60 to 75 members. |
