E-Mail: Martha Mwale Mulenga
I was born in 1965 in Chingola, a small town on the 'Copperbelt' Province.
I am the third in a family of 5. My father died when I was 6. His elder brother
whom I still refer to as dad because he really has been that in many ways
therefore brought me up. Before joining his family I changed schools often but
from1976 I went to Lusaka Girl's Primary and later qualified to Roma Girl's
Secondary School where I attained the School Certificate in 1983.
In 1984 I went to the Copperbelt University where I pursued a degree in
Building Science (with a major in Quantity Surveying). This I attained in 1989
with a credit. Upon graduation I worked for J.W Robertson a firm of Chartered
Quantity Surveyors. Due to a declining workload, I had to leave the company in
May 1992. Later that year I joined Mpelembe Drilling Company MDC a major
contractor to the mining giant Zambia Consolidated Copper Mining LTD where I
served as a Contracts Engineer and rose to the post of Assistant Head of
Technical Services. I left MDC in1997 to join the Zambia Telecommunications Company
ZAMTEL as Manager in charge of estates and administration.
I left ZAMTEL in September 1999 to join the private sector to concentrate on
business lines established along the way. I'm now Executive Director of
Sybil-Line limited a company dealing in project management Land scaping and
construction.
I am also director of Sunga Nursery school, which caters for children aged
between 2 and 6.
I met Emmillio my husband in 1985 at the university .At the time we were both
serious sports enthusiasts, he played football (soccer) while I played
basketball. I got the 1986 sportswoman of the year award (i.e.
inter-university). We got married on May 26 1990. We now have two children; our
daughter Musunga is 8 while our son Chilando is soon to be 6 (on 27th January).
Emmillio is a marketing specialist and a Gemologist (with qualifications from
the University of Zambia and from the Gemological Institute of America,
previously based in Santa Monica, California).
