Gary LordHarare
Zimbabwe, Africa IT Manager. Age: 35. Married.E-Mail: Gary Lord
I was born in Harare the capital city of Zimbabwe in 1965 and completed my
education there at Churchill High School. My fifteen-year term of employment
has been solely with The Discount Company of Zimbabwe Ltd (DCZ), which trades
as a bank in the Zimbabwean financial sector. Currently, as the Senior Manager
for Information Systems, I have overall control over the direction and
co-ordination of all aspects of the computerized management information systems
of the Company.
Owing to the small size of the Company my duties have included a diverse range
of activities within the computer department but are primarily concerned with
systems analysis and programming. During the course of my employment my
department was responsible for the development and support of the business
critical "Asset Management System" that totally supports the
Company's money market operations. Recently the Company expanded its operations
into the realm of retail banking and electronic supermarket banking.
In 1990 I represented my country when I captained the Zimbabwe Volleyball team
in the Zone 6 internationals, where we were the silver medallists out of seven
countries. I am a keen fisherman, social cyclist and love the great outdoors.
A large proportion of my spare time is devoted to community service activities
through Round Table, which is a young men's service organisation with similar
aims and objectives to Rotary. Within Round Table I have been chairman of my
club, Harare 37, and have held the posts of Legal and Constitutional Advisor
and Storekeeper on the National Executive. I have been awarded the prestigious
"Tabler of the Year" twice in succession.
All this would not have been possible without the loving support of my wife
Natalie and my two wonderful children, Craig aged 7 and Stephanie aged 4.
