"Virtuoso" tries what has already been done before in episodes like "Real Life," "Latent Image" and "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy," the EMH's rights
as an individual, and has nothing new to say. This is annoying enough without the bad acting and scenes that make you cringe.
We've already pretty well summed up that the Doc is more an individual
than a piece of technology, and we knew that Doc had a big ego. So . what was all this about? Including a highly mathematical species that have never heard music is simply a plot device to say what we know already. Including unfunny comedy and a love interest, which wasn't even nearly believable, couldn't even come close to interesting me here, so I find myself very bored.
Sure we get the always-interesting discussion about the Doc, but we've
heard it all before. There are some funny scenes involving the very excited Doctor and the good-byes where surprisingly heart-warming despite the knowledge that Doc wouldn't leave. Also heartwarming was Seven's fan mail. I also liked the crews reactions to Doc's fandom and the Doc talking about Neelix at flu season which was hilarious!! The mini-doc singing with the real Doc (What is the real Doc? :-) ) was funny too.
The guest stars where truly appalling. They couldn't even pretend to act! They just stood there plainly saying their lines without even a hint of experience or feeling.
So wrapping up the smallest review I've ever done, "Virtuoso" was harmless but that doesn't mean it was all that enjoyable. It had some of the right stuff, so to speak, but there wasn't enough to warrant an episode with anything good to contribute. Not even a good try. There's always next time though.
