These do damage depending on the creature's hit dice, and if at least two hit, then the creature latches on. Each round the creature remains attached (successful bend bars/lift gates roll for the affected creature to free themselves), it drains 1D2 levels of experience or hit dice from the creature, 1D3 for Adults, 1D4 for Ancients, and 1D6 for Legendary. This drain not only heals the Men Tarod for any damage taken, but for every eight HP worth of hit dice of levels it drains (i.e. for a Warrior with max HP per hit dice and an 18 Constitution, an adult Men Tarod could drain 42 HP with a roll of 3) it gains one hit dice. If the target can cast spells and loses any memorized spells from the drain, the spells memorized but uncast act as 2 HP per level of the spells forgotten (i.e. if a Mage is reduced from level 4 to 3 and had all spells memorized, then the Men Tarod would gain 6 HP from 1 2nd level spell worth 4 HP and one 1st level spell worth 2 HP), but with priest spells this is reduced to 1 HP per spell level forgotten. For this extra energy, Men Tarods always go after Mages, then Clerics, then Druids, then Bards, then Paladins, Warriors, and lastly Rouges. The soft, gooey body of Men Tarods makes them immune to blunt weapons, and a mucus like coat gives them a 50% resistance against fire, electricity, poison, and cold as well as a +2 save v.s. Fire. Habitat/Society None Ecology Men Tarods live to eat, and large ones can control even the largest of predator populations. However, once one is born, an entire planet may be doomed; it is certainly not unheard of among older people to hear tales of spelljamming ships that came upon crystal spheres where the only life was Men Tarods, some having grown to dozens of feet in size from the abundance of food. Origin Metroids from Super Metroid.
