Phelps Career Senior High School is the only school in the Washington Metropolitan area which offers a three year program in leather design concepts. The program offers pattern making and cutting, basic anatomy of the foot and all current fashion styles.

The primary objective of the program is to enable students to develop, apply and sharpen the manipulative skills essential to design, repair and maintain shoes and a variety of other consumer leather goods, including handbags, luggage clothes, tents and other items made of leather, rubber, canvas, plastic or composition materials.

The Phelps Career Senior High School Shoe and Leatherwork Repair and Design Department can prepare you for a lifetime career in this highly specialized field. Students are fully familiarized with the nature of the trade. All students gain a basic knowledge of entrepeneurship and business management.
