RED JUNGLEFOWL
GALLUS GALLUS
NORTH EASTERN INDIA
These photos are of stock that the Fish & Wildlife Service captured in India in the late 50's. Most of these birds are across the south and at this time are microchipped. You will notice how the hen has little comb or lappet and the male displays his tail horizontally. The true Junglefowl will go through a full eclipse and not a plain molt after breeding season. We have had several pairs in past years, but found that none of the males eclipsed and all had flowing curved tailes. There are five subspecies of the Red Junglefowl.
Incubation 21-22 days
