There is no one word that describes F-zero, except maybe Superfantasticextrafastfrustratingbestracinggameever oh, and its fast, too. There arent many other games on the market that come even close to F-zero. Accept no imitations Tube sliding and rocket motorcycles are for sissies - this is the real thing! The smooth, 60fps Gameplay will have you hooked from the get go, and you wont even mind the fact that it takes you forty tries to get top ten on the first race. You think this game is intense at first, but you havent seen anything yet. Wait till you get to master difficulty, playing with enemies that are constantly ramming into you, and actually achieving the rare 2000 km that is always used in context as if its the games average speed (not like its not fast enough at 1300). Rarely does a game have as gloriously original or insane levels as have been created in GX. Youll go upside down, off huge ramps, race in cylinders, outside of cylinders, and generally just bounce around a lot. The insane speed and beautiful graphics are great, sure, but GX isnt without its flaws. The sound is a disappointment, which makes me wonder why the best games on Gamecube have average music. The techno and rock soundtrack isnt that bad, but its repetitive maybe thats just because youll be playing the same levels so much. Each race takes practice to get even half decent at. And I dont just mean play-it-three-times, and-once-more-because-you-like-it practice. I mean play-it-so-much-you-know-every-tiny-detail practice. It can get annoying. Oh, and Holy Jumping Fairies Batman! The characters in this game are so friggin gay! An obese samurai? A skeleton? A boxing robot? I havent seen this many immeasurably gay characters in the same place since the Super-Friends! The lesson? Never try to put a story in a racing game. Story 4/10 Gameplay 8/10 Graphics 9/10 Sound 6/10 Replay 8/10 Overall 8/10 (NOT AN AVERAGE!) ~ Alex Brander (PhazonGX, Venom Dream, Webmaster) |
