| Play continued in the SON tournament today, Saturday August 22nd, and neither the tournament directors, players, or fans could have predicted that it would mark such a truly monumental occasion. While the SOHS JV team continued their fine defensive play, the offense just couldn't find the net in a 0-2 loss to a solid Bishop Brossart squad. However, it was the Varsity Lady Dragon's 3-0 shutout win over long time rival Oldham County that resulted in coach Cy Tucker's 300th win during his prestigous career. The girls were on point today with Shelby Thompson, Marissa Williams (unassisted), and Hannah Kellogg netting goals and Alexis Faller & Alex Shaffer garnering assists. The defense was relentless and unforgiving with Meredith Miles & Mariah Willard sharing time in goal. The team has been impressive in it's first three matches and have forged a 2-1 record against formidable opponents. For the 12 years I've known Coach Tucker he has always credited & promoted his players, but one does not achieve the success indicated by 300 wins without the ability to instruct, develop, encourage & maintain a tradition of excellence like he has demonstrated throughout his impressive career! I know past players, parents, and fans of high school soccer everywhere will join me in congratulating Coach Tucker on his incredible achievement!! Go Dragons!! |

| "Third times a charm" did not work for the Oldham County Lady Colonels this evening as they lost in the District 16 Semi Finals to our South Oldham Lady Dragons. This was the closest of the three matches the teams played this year but the result was the same with SOHS victorious, this time 1-0. Meredith Miles earned the shutout which was South's second against OC this year. The only score of the game came in the 17th minute when Shelby Thompson launched a corner kick which was tracked down by Alexis Faller who headed it in for what would be the game winning goal! South will now play for the District 16 Title tomorrow evening (Wednesday Oct 14th) against the winner of the North Oldham - Shelby County game taking place at the time of this posting. The Championship match will be at North Oldham High School at 7:00pm. Go Dragons!! |

| What a match! It doesn't get any closer than this! The Championship game of the 16th District proved to be a nail biter at North Oldham High School. It was cold and wet, but the two teams heated things up playing to a 0-0 draw in regulation. It was so close that 20 minutes of overtime wasn't enough to decide the outcome. So as rules determine, it would go to a shootout. The Lady Dragons from South Oldham would claim the Title behind a stellar performance from goalie Meredith Miles who made 8 saves in regulation and 2 in the decisive shootout that followed. Four Lady Dragons were named to the All District 16 Tournament Team: Emma Abney, Alexis Faller, Meredith Miles, and Marissa Williams. Both teams will advance to play for the Region 8 Title - SOHS is the defending champion. Regional brackets will be posted soon. A picture of the District 16 Champions is posted on the "2009 District 16 Tournament Brackets" page, courtesy of Liz DeHart. Go Dragons!! |

The Title game will be the rubber match between the Lady Mustangs and our South Oldham Lady Dragons as North beat South 2-0 in regular season play and SOHS beat NOHS in a shootout in the District 16 Final. The Region 8 tournament winner will move on to the sub-sectional representing the region. In game one, North Oldham defeated Ballard 2-1. Then South shutout the Lady Eagles from Eastern for the second time this year and by the identical score of 4-0. Lady Dragon goals were credited to Marissa Williams (2), Shelby Thompson, and Alexis Faller. Assists were earned by Samee Shaffer and Hannah Kellogg. Meredith Miles led the defense in goal for the shutout! Go Dragons!! |
