Andrew Lloyd Webber

On october 9th 1986, 'The Phantom Of The Opera' opened at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's west end, and can still be seen there to this day.

At first, nobody had heard of the Gaston Leroux novel, and none of the videos made stuck to the original storyline, so many people wondered what Andrew Lloyd Webber would make of it.

Expectations were high, as Andrew Lloyd Webber had produced many sell-out musicals such as:

Cats, Starlight express, Joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoat and Jesus christ superstar, just to name a few.

At first Andrew Lloyd Webber collaborated with Alan Jay Lerner in regard to the lyrics, but after he fell ill, Andrew turned to a young and talented lyricist, Charles Hart. With producer, Hal Prince and stage/ costume designer, Maria Björnson, the stage was set for The Phantom Of The Opera!
