This has been one of the most influential and terrifying horror movies of all time. Since the day it premiered is has been in infamy and sononamous with terror. Not only has it inspired other horror movies but has also inspired young film makers like myself in the art of low budget movie making. One thing I find interesting about the film is that if you mention it to anyone, they are bound to talk about how gory and violent it is when actually there is VERY little blood shown on screen. It left the real terror and gore in your head and the real terror of it was seeing the effects it had on poor Sally Hardesty. It's success spawned 3 lesser sequels although parts 2 and 3 are really good in their own way...while the 4th is completely uneccessary. The movie follows a group of 5 youths which consists of Sally Hardesty, her invalid brother Franklin, and 3 of Sally's friends. After hearing of grave robbing in the cemetary where their grandfather is buried, the group travel to the cemetary to check on the grave and then go to a creaky old house that has been in Sally's family. But right down the desolate road lives Leatherface and his twisted family of cannibals who terrorize the poor kids one by one leading to the unbelievable climax where Sally must alone escape from the Leatherface and his "clan".  The direction is excellent by Tobe Hooper and the acting is great especially by Leatherface's twisted relatives and the great Marilyn Burns as Sally Hardesty. For anyone looking for a great version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then but the Pioneer DVD with contains everything you could hope to know about the film especially with a great commentary by Tobe Hooper, Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface), and director of photography Daniel Pearl.
