The Agony of Alice
(published 1985)
This was odd to read, as it was the first Alice book ever, so I was meeting old friends for the first time, which felt weird. It was just a typical girl-struggles-with-growing-up story, but it had quite a few touches of humor... Alice is a very likeable character struggling with everyday stuff, and she reacts in ways that make me glad I'm not in her place. Not a bad book!

All But Alice
(published 1992)
One of the less interesting Alice books. This earlier book is a more typical teenage girl growing-up story, with much fewer laugh-out-loud moments than the later additions to the series. This book just seems melodramatic and corny.

The Grooming of Alice
(published 2000)
I read this a ways back and remembered being pretty disgusted with it. I read it again and wasn't quite so disgusted . . . except for chapter eleven. Come on, I didn't want to know all that stuff. I sort of skimmed over that chapter because, to tell the truth, it was rather sick, and something I really didn't want to read. The rest of the book, however, was fun and enjoyable. In typical Alice fashion, she faces the perils of everyday life. I didn't laugh at all during this one, as compared to my giggling hysterically over "Simply Alice." I'm not sure if that was because this book simply wasn't as funny, or if it was me. I don't know. Overall, this book is cool. Except for chapter eleven. Yuck.

Simply Alice
(published 2002)
I was very pleased with this book. It was much funnier and much less crude than the other Alice books. I even found myself laughing aloud at several parts, which I never did with any of the other books. I hope the series continues to improve . . . I would love to read more books along the lines of Simply Alice!
