I watched "Mystic River" last night. (Firstly to see what all the hype is about, and secondly to see whether or not Jesse was correct in saying it wasn't very good)... I actually rather liked it. I wasn't *crazy* about it and didn't turn it off thinking "Whoa, golly gee, I've just seen a masterpiece" but over all I thought it was pretty interesting. The acting was really great (First movie to make me get all teary in since "13 going on 30"), Sean Penn is worthy of the hype though frankly I thought Kevin Bacon was much better then Tim Robbins. But whatever.
The only things I really didn't get about the movie (And I list these since I know my one and only reader (GO HANNAH!!!! lol) has seen the movie and may be able to shed some light ;)) were...
1. What's up with the speech by Jimmy's wife at the end? Was it just me or did that come totally out of the blue from a very small character whose only lines up to that point had been expressions of disbelief that her stepdaughter was dead.
2. I'm baffled by Sean's little 'gun hand motion' at the end of the movie. Did he mean he knew Jimmy killed Dave, or did he mean he was going to get Jimmy for what he did to Dave?
3. Did Jimmy *really* believe Dave killed his daughter? That seems like a bit of a stretch... Dave explains all the blood on his hands, and given his past it's a convincing explanation.
Anyways, tis a movie that sticks with you... really makes you keep thinking and thinking about it. Which considering the fact that generally the sort of thinking movies make me do is to wonder who in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Angel gets to do his laundrey is probably a good thing ;)
