When I heard that Al Pacino was playing Shylock in this, I was a bit taken aback. "Al Pacino? What is HE doing in a Shakespeare play?" But he turned out to be not at all bad. It's not like I have other performances of Shylock to compare him with, as I've never actually seen any other production of the play, but I felt that he was quite convincing. What's-his-name-Fiennes was good, Jeremy Irons was billed first even though he had almost nothing to do except sit around waiting for a pound of flesh to be taken off (although I suppose he did that well *shrug*), and Portia rather irritated me. Something about her just didn't sit well with me at all. The movie itself felt like it moved SO slowly and was rather a boring view. So, in summary... blah movie, but decent cast.
