A Sinister Silence

I liked the idea of a deaf heroine -- I don't think that's been done very many times before -- but her hearing was restored only a third of the way through the book, thereby returning her to ordinary heroine status. The plot, also, was fascinating in the middle but sort of dwindled down at the end. Not a bad story, but not excellent.
