How does marketing affect our moral and ethical decisions? Why do people buy products even if they understand the ethical issues that surround each product? (ie. Kodak’s emission of dioxin) Provide examples to support your view point.

2 – Photo Album
Find 20 different pictures that demonstrate human rights issues. Write a brief paragraph (2-3 sentences) on each photo. Discuss What the picture means to you, and how you feel about the issue. (Can be submitted digitally via the hand in folder) 3 – Survey
Survey a group of 50 people (32 students, 18 adults) about their opinions on a human rights issue (business related) and come to conclusion on their opinions. (Examples)

4 – Newspaper research
Find 10 stories about international business or human rights in the news. Discuss the following:
1) The issue at hand
2) What caused the issue or story to occur
3) What was done to resolve the problem
4) What is your opinion on the issue/problem
5 – Essay question #2
Is child labour an issue? Why or why not? Provide data and research to support your position.
(2-3 page response) 6 – Marketing Strategies
Research 5 different marketing strategies that have been used and have been considered to be unethical. These may include marketing to children. Discuss whether or not you agree with the use of the strategy. (2-3 sentences each)
7 – Product Research
What products do you use at home? Are they international products? Research 10 different goods that you use that are produced internationally. Discuss:
1) Are they produced in Canada? If yes, why do you use the international product? If no, discuss why not.
2) Does the company have any ethical issues surrounding the production of the product?
8 – Political Lobbyist groups:
Research and describe 10 political groups that are lobbying for a human rights issue.
Describe: What they are lobbying for, what countries are they involved in, and your position on the issue at hand. (2-3 sentences for each group)

What responsibility does the government have in protecting it’s country from globalization? What should western governments do to protect the human rights of third world countries? Provide examples to support your view point

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS BINGO
Your goal is to complete a BINGO of assignments. Bingos can be completing a sequence of 3 assignments. The three assignments must be all connected with one line.
Ie.
These assignments are all related to the movie “The Corporation” and deal with human rights issues and how big business affect peoples morals and ethics. Many different opinions exists on a variety of issues. Do not be afraid to state your opinion on the issues, but please have some sensitivity to the people who may be affected by the issues around the world.
A “BINGO” card can be found on the back of this assignment sheet. You will be given time in the computer lab to complete this assignment. PLEASE USE YOUR TIME WISELY. More information on each of the individual assignments will be given in class.
This project is heavily researched based. You MUST include references for each of the sources you use. A works cited page, footnotes, endnotes, in text citation, are all acceptable methods.
You will be graded on each component and the marking scheme will work as follows:
1) Sourcing of material – 5 marks
2) Completion of each assignment – 15 marks (3 x 5 marks)
3) Quality of content and responses – 30 marks (3 x 10 marks)
Total = 50 marks.
This mark will be included in the PROJECTS AND PRESENTATIONS portion of your final mark.
