The Bloodhound Gang:
The Bloodhound Gang has recently found many new fans, especially because of "The Bad Touch".
Some of these fans don't even know what their music is like and when some fans who only
knew that one song went to a Bloodhound Gang concert close to where I live recently,
they were pretty surprised. Not only their music was a little different than they expected,
their on-stage habits are not exactly well behaved... If you like small animals and want
to fight for their rights, don't go to Bloodhound Gang concerts.Style: Everything from metal to easy listening. Most is nice rock music with a lot of guitar... You have to listen to the lyrics!!! CDs: Hurray For Boobies is already the fourth album these guys made. The first one is sold out and I couldn't get a hold of any of those songs yet, but I don't expect them too be very good either, because The Bloodhound Gang started out as a Depeche Mode cover band until "God Lives Underwater" showed them how to use samples and make it sound good. In exchange the BHG explained them how to burn your own farts. The second album, Use Your Fingers, is still available. I listened to it a few times in my record store, but never decided to buy it, because it just isn't that good. Only the cover picture would be a good reason to buy it... "One Fierce Beercoaster" is in my opinion the best BHG album so far. It really rocks. There is everything from metal to easy listening on there and only one song is lame. You should at least know "Fire Water Burn" and "I wish I was queer so I could get chicks". My personal favorite is "Kiss me where it smells funny", read the lyrics, if you don't understand them by hearing... By the way, there is one song which they weren't allowed to put on the beercoaster. You can order it online on their website... The new album "Hurray For Boobies" kicks ass as well. Two songs from the promo CD have not made their way on the album, one of them sounded a little too much like a Pink Floyd song... There are many covers on this CD. All in all the music got harder, the text probably even more explicit (better...). The album came 11 months after its first official release date. It has been a long wait for the old fans, but they sure did some good work. I think its sad that the Bloodhound Gang got nominated for "Best Newcomer Band" in a TV award show. It just shows that most of the music industry is full of ignorant idiots. Website: www.bloodhoundgang.com The site is done and maintained by the band itself, so its definitely worth a look, you will a lot of interesting, cool and very strange stuff. Check out the contest... |
NOFX:
Well, this is probably one of the oldest punk bands still playing, and it sure is the
best one! I like them a lot, just listen to the music, rock or relax and sing in tune...
If your voice is just as angelic as Fat Mike's or El Hefe's nobody will notice, you're
singing along ;o). They have been around for close to 17 years now, but they had quite a
few changes in who was on the band. Their music has changed a bit as well, for the good.
They put together a very good website themselves where all the history is uncovered...
See below.
Style: Mostly punk-rock, but there is a lot of ska influence as well. And some just-fun songs like "buggley eyes" who sound a little like Louis Armstrong???. I can't really say what style that is. The songs are short, some very short but just brilliant! Like "monosyllabic girl..." CDs: In those almost 17 years they made quite a few. Too many for me to remember. Go on their website and look for yourself. My personal favorite is "White trash two heebs and a bean". Well, I guess you just have to buy the CDs. They just put out a new EP "The Decline". Just one track with several songs and half the CD is transparent! But I'm waiting for the new album. Website: NOFXOfficialWebsite.com It's really good with lots of stuff on it.

Smash mouth:
The best party CD in my collection is Smash mouth's Fush Yu Mang. And Smash mouth is close
to being my favorite band, not quite sure yet. They make feel-good music and that is
also what they want their music to be. It's music that makes them feel good when playing it
and it makes everybody feel good when you listen to it. At least it does that for me.
The lyrics often has a serious meaning as well, "All Star" tells you to live your live
the way you want it and not to be afraid to do stuff wrong, you're your own all star.
Well, that's about feeling good as well, isn't that? Well, you just can't deny that effect.
And the albums will rock your party as well.
Style: The music varies from good old rock and punk over ska/reggae to pop. Some songs can really get you rockin' (and moshing...). Play it loud. It feels good. CDs: In 1997 Smashmouth put "Fush Yu Mang" on the market, three years after they started the band. They already had received a lot of attention before that, but the album was a hit. 1999 they put out "Astro Lounge" and landed an even bigger hit. They are nominated for some awards this year (2000) as well. They did a lot of songs for soundtracks. If you like the music I like, you should better get their music. I listen to it all the time. Good stuff. Their website ain't bad by the way. Less background information, but sound + movies and many animated gifs. Nice design... Also tour dates, merchandising and their email adresses! Let's rock. Website: www.smashmouth.com

More?
Sorry, but that's all I got so far. I have to find out some more stuff about the other bands first anyway. But I will add more and more information about the bands above. They all make rock/punk/ska/crossover music which is my choice in music... Those are my favorite bands anyway. Come back and check for more information, especially if you like this music as much as I do. |
