~ Historic District established ~
The Olde Town Historic District was approved by the Port Huron City Council on October 22, 2001. The State Historic Preservation Office had approved the proposal earlier in the year. Neighborhood activists spent over two years researching and publishing their findings.

~ Union & Wall Streets Restoration Project ~
In 1996, many historic Court Street residences were successfully restored through the use of grants, loans, and the installation of period street lights. The City of Port Huron followed in 2001 by expanding this concept to neighboring Union and Wall streets. Most work has been completed.

~ Sewer Separation ~
Port Huron is in the middle of a fifteen year project to separate all storm and sanitary sewers. Seventh, Ninth, and other streets in the Olde Town area were closed due to heavy construction. Traffic disruption and blowing dust were inconveniences. However, new streets, curbs, and some sidewalks improved the neighborhood appearance.

~ Acheson Ventures Project ~
Philanthropist James Acheson has focused his energies on the area south of Black River. He purchased much of the old railroad property east of the Olde Town area, restored a vintage gas station, and brought Tall Ships to the City.
