Buying a new power amplifier. If you own a 100 watt amplifier and want to buy a bigger amplifier, you should know that you will need to double your current power, to 200 watts, to be able to hear any increase. In sound terms you need a 3 dB increase to notice an increase. You need to double your power to get a 3 dB increase in power. Be careful, your old speakers may not be able to handle the power increase.
