Material Reciclable -1999

Recorded between june and july 1999. This work is based on the manipulation of digital sound files (loops) using the computer as the main tool (instrument?).

This is a very different aproach for making music, instead of playing the instruments in a linear fashion, I recorded snippets of sounds, and manipulated this snippets using software that allowed me to make changes in pitch, duration, frequencies, etc. This audio segments were the different pieces that I later put together: drum loops, bass scales, assorted noises, arpeggiated synth sounds, sampled instruments, TV and radio voices, and so on...

Then i used a software called Acid, and constructed the tracks, usings this pre-arranged blocks. Acid allowed me to change the tempo or the key of the sounds, so they make sense in the context of the composition.

Finally, the results were mixed down to wav stereo files, and then converted to the mp3 format. The mp3 files were uploaded, using the internet, to the www.mp3.com site, where i have a page so anyone can download some of the songs, or buy a copy of the complete CD.

I believe this is a very interesting way of creating music, and one that puts the creative tools closer to everyone that is willing to create his/her own musical vision.
