| Trade Deadline By The Sports Kid 08/02/04 So the trading deadline has passed. But I'll still break it down (the bigger moves that is) for you, because I'm that kind of guy. The Unit stayed in Arizona but Finley and Mayne did not, they were shipped to L.A. for three minor league prospects. The BoSox acquired speed demon, Dave Roberts, from L.A., traded away Nomar Garciaparra to the Cubs in a four-team, eight-player deal. That deal looked like this: Garciaparra to the Cubs, and minor leaguers Matt Murton, Alex Gonzalez, Francis Beltran, and Brendan Harris go to Montreal, and Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkewicz (and yes that was hard to spell because you can't copy & paste on this thing!) head to Boston. The Yankees swapped roller coaster Jose Contreas for the ChiSox's Esteban Loaiza. The Metropolitions acquired Benson and Zambrano (Victor) to help in that N.L. East race, but had to give up several prospects. The Marlins added a much needed relief arm in Mota, and filled in the hole left by Pudge, and they re-acquired Encarnacion all from the Dodgers. But they did have to give up Hee Sop Choi, and Brad Penny. My Padres gave up the guy second on the club in wins (Ismael Valdes) on the team for minor leaguer Travis Chick from the Marlins. Hitchcock will now take the number 5 starter role. |
