Flyer was the first born Whippet puppy whelped at Pfyre. He was also the puppy no one wanted. Their loss is my gain, he has wrapped himself around my heart so tightly, I couldn't imagine life without him.
He was a wonderful Lure Coursing dog with the ability to be either spectaularly good or if he wanted to play, spectaularly bad. He has multiple Best In Fields, however, because of an unfortunate accident he is retiring from LCing. We have discovered how *much* fun we can have racing (no turns), and he has acquired enough WRA race points to wear a CRX-II title.
On October 23, 2000, 13 months after he last lure coursed, he was entered as a filler at our AKC trial. We did this knowing that we could run to the left in the prelims, and he has no problem making left turns. After the prelims he was all alone in first place. So, after much debate, we decided to let him run the final. HE WENT ALL THE WAY TO BEST IN FIELD. His first on our home field, all of his other spectatular runs have been on fields far away. What a way to finish his AKC Field Championship.
He finished his LCM-II, from the veteran stake, at the 2002 AWC National LCing trial in Colorado. Going in needing 2 points, he finished in a tie for 3rd. We took the fourth and went home VERY happy. That was his last lure coursing trial.
Although he will continue to race, both straight and oval, as long as he's physically able and wants to run.
