| TROJAN TIMES REVIEW #1 | ||||||||
| By: Mr. Longfellow | ||||||||
| Now, upon going through the Trojan Times Vol. VIII, Issue IV (March 6,
2007),
I came across several interesting things, if you will. I'm not trying
to be
harsh toward the writers of our paper, so keep that in mind.
In the paper there was a section on scholarships currently available for the '07 seniors. I find it quite amusing that under the Silver Valley Economic Development Corporation Career Development Award, the writer found a reason to tell about the Junior class earning money for their Junior Prom. What on earth does that have to do with any scholorship? Who knows... Not to mention that the same exact news on Junior Prom, was printed directly above the scholarship section in a gray box... Along with the scholarships, two of them had deadlines of February '07. Keep in mind, this is the March issue. The staff needs to figure out their release date, for lack of a better term, and adjust the content accordingly. It was probably an annoyance to the Seniors who would have liked to applied for the scholorship, assuming they didn't know it was available, and when the finish reading the requirements and what not, they find the deadline was last month. I also have some curiousity toward a little section titled, "Sweetest couples for the sweetest month." There were 3 couples featured in the section. So, someone tell me what it is that makes them "sweeter" than the rest. But there was one particular couple in there that obviously deserved the spot, a Junior couple that has been dating since the 7th grade. But the other two, I don't know what's so special about them to have them be featured as they were. It might just be me, but if you think about you and your significant other, what makes them better than you? Sections like these that seemingly alienate other students should probably be avoided. I've got a short bit for the athlete of the month too. I find it interesting that he achieved this award for wrestling, but the picture displayed, is from football... I don't know a whole lot about the award, but isn't it earned by those who do exceptionally well at their event/sport? This individual placed 3rd at regionals, under 2 other students at our school. Keep in mind, I don't know a lot about the award though, so I could be wrong about that. |
