Off a strong finish from the previous season, the Patriots had playoff expectations as the season dawned as they played their final preseason game against the Packers.  The Patriots would lose three defensive starters in that game which would cripple the defense.  With ineffective quarterback play, John Stephens found room to run scarce and he followed his 1100 yards with 833.  The Patriots used four quarterbacks and none of them proved efffective.  Their play was further hampered by injuries to Morgan and Fryar.  An ineffective offense coupled with a cripled defense led the Patriots to their first 10 loss season since 1981.  The worst had yet to come.
