| After the strong finish in 1969, the Patriots had hopes of a good season during their initial foray in the NFL. To help bolster there chances, the Patriots signed former Vikings' QB Joe Kapp, who was coming off a 1969 ProBowl season in the NFL. The move backfired as Joe Kapp struggled and ws out of the NFL altogether after the 1970 season. After surprising the Dolphins in the opener 27-14, the Patriots would lose their next 6 games and cost Coach Clive Rush his job. GM John Mazur stepped into the coaching job, but the results were the same as the Patriots' losing streak would readh 9 games before they finally won again. The 14-10 victory only an abberation as the Patriots would lose their final three games against Miami, Minnesota and Cincinnati by a combined 117-41. The Patriots ineptness were spread around on both sides of the ball as the offense generated a team record low 149 points for the season. With a top draft pick and new stadium on the horizon, the Patriots were hoping for better results. |
