1. Most memorable Peace Corps training experience. All of the newness.
2. Most memorable Peace Corps job experience. Directing what I thought was a very effective production of a one act play version of "Sorry, Wrong Number."
3. Most memorable event off the job in Thailand. Getting married. Riding our bikes around the villages outside Maha Sarakham, especially to a little village on the River Chee where we used to go swimming.
4. Best vacation spot or tiow in Thailand. Phuket—snorkeling over the coral reef.
5. Favorite Thai food. Kowniow mamuang, somtom, kai lukkeoi (son-in-law eggs)
6. Funniest memory from Thailand. Communication and miscommunication: I still remember Carol Leviton telling us how she meant to order noodles with sauce (qwitiew radnah) and instead ordered a radio with sauce (witiyu radnah).
7. Overseas trips since Peace Corps. Returned to teach at Sri Nakharinwirot, Songkhla, in 1982-83. Spent 2 weeks in Japan on the return trip—one week in a monastery. In 1993 I accompanied my boss and his son on a trip to India. We traveled mostly around Darjeeling and Sikkim. Last spring we took a 2 week vacation to Thailand with brief stops in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. The days on the beach of Koh Bulon were the best.
8. Proudest accomplishment(s) since leaving Peace Corps. Being recognized and thanked by my students (mostly prisoners and drug rehabs). Climbing all the mountains in the Catskills.
9. Best vacation outside of Thailand. Driving cross country with my family in a van for a month. Stopping, camping and swimming at State and National Parks all along the way.
10. Favorite pastime now. Hiking and cross-country skiing.
11. Best thing about your current job. Satisfaction of seeing my drug rehab students learning computing skills and developing self-confidence to be able to return to the job market.
12. Favorite web sites. Alta Vista, Yahoo, Deja News.
13. Favorite book, movie, music, etc. Zen Mind, Beginners Mind. BACH. Indonesian Gamelan.
