Update: I couldn't balance it properly with its short nose, so I ended up extending it by just over an inch (the pictures above were taken prior to the nose job). It still needed some nose weight, but it flies great now. I also made the mistake of lengthening the ailerons, which made it too twitchy for me. I now fly it only with one aileron, and is still quite responsive.
Assembly:
Pretty simple and quick, all balsa, with some fiberglass reinforcement. I didn't use a foam wing, just balsa ribs, 1/4" leading edge and 1/16" skins, no other spar. The ailerons are made from solid balsa stock. I didn't sand down the fuse edges too round, as to give it maximum strength.Flying:
Pretty fast plane for that size and power. I intend to race it in the piker pylon racing class. It's a pretty tough bird. I fly it behind my house in a wooded area with tall weeds and bushes. It takes a lot of abuse, I've punctured the wings a few times, broke off the tail feathers, but I just keep gluing it back together and keep flying. Pierre Audette
