Dawson Leery looked behind him and smiled when he saw Pacey Witter, and Joey Potter following him. Joey had a scowl on her face, and Pacey wore an amused smirk. Dawson looked forward again as he concentrated on not loosing his footing in the mud. It had rained all afternoon, and the ground was a liquid gooey mess.

Get your hands off of me you cretin, Joey shouted.

Fine, Pacey shouted back.

Dawson whipped around to see what they were screaming about and nearly fell on his ass as his feet slid in the mud. Dawson turned around just in time to see Pacey let go of Joeys arm, and as a result Joey lost her balance and crashed to the ground. She hit the ground with a disgusting squish sound as mud flew everywhere.

She struggled to stand up in the slosh, but only proceeded to fall again coating just about every inch of her body in mud.

Dammit, she shouted into the night.

Pacey stood next to her in an uncontrollable fit of laughter. He was sprayed in mud as well from her fall, but it didnt phase him, as he was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes. Joey stopped trying to get up and stared up at Pacey.

Well are you going to help me, or not, you jerk, she shouted.

You told me to keep my hands off of you, Pacey argued through his laughter.

I hate you, Joey spit out.

Dawson made his way over to Joey, and extended his hand to help her up. Joey took his hand. Dawson started to pull her up, but Joeys feet slipped out from under her again sending them both tumbling to the ground.

Pacey burst out laughing again as Joey and Dawson lay in the mud. Damn you Pacey Witter, Joey shouted as tears of frustration sprang in her eyes.

Pacey stopped laughing. His face softened as Joey sat in the mud struggling not to cry. She looks damn cute all mad and covered in mud Pacey thought. Pacey offered his hand to Joey, and she grabbed it. Before Pacey could stop her she yanked him down.

Pacey sat up slowly as Joeys laughter echoed in his ears. Pacey took a deep breath before picking up a handful of mud, and throwing it at Joey. It hit her square in the forehead. Joeys laughter stopped abruptly as the mud slowly slid down her face. Her eyes flashed with anger before she hurled herself at Pacey.

She tackled him, and pushed his head into the mud. Pacey struggled underneath her, but she sat on his chest. She picked up a handful of mud, and smeared it all over his face. Pacey twisted trying to get himself free. Finally, he grabbed her around the waist, and flipped them over. Paceys weight held Joey down, and she squirmed underneath him.

Let me up, she demanded.

Say please, Pacey taunted.

Get. Off. Me, Joey ground out.

Would you guys cut it out, Dawson pleaded from his place in the mud.

Not till she says please, Pacey threw back.

Joey continued to struggle wiggling her body underneath Paceys. Just let her up Pacey, Dawson begged.

All of a sudden Joey stopped struggling. Her eyes widened and though no one could see it a deep blush spread over her cheeks. Pacey froze.

Jo, he started.

Joey shoved him off of her, and backed away from him. Dawson looked at them strangely not understanding what happened.

Jo, I didnt mean, Pacey began again.

Forget it. Just forget it, Joey answered.

She carefully tried to stand up, and this time was successful. Dawson followed her lead, and was quickly joined by Pacey. The tension between Pacey and Joey was obvious, and Dawson wanted to say something, but had no idea what to say.

Joey refused to look at Pacey, and Pacey stood staring at the ground. Lets just go, Joey finally said.

They silently set off this time walking carefully in the mud so as not to slip. The continued their journey in an uneasy silence. About five minutes later Dawson stopped. Pacey and Joey didnt notice as they continued to walk. Dawson looked around in the darkness searching for something.

Hey guys hold up, Dawson called out to them as they had walked further ahead then him.

Joey and Pacey stopped, and looked back at Dawson. Do you hear that? Dawson asked.

What the hell is that? Pacey asked upon hearing the sound.

I have no idea it sounds like something is coming this way, Joey answered as the sound was getting louder very quickly.

What the hell would be out here? I mean were in a cow pasture, Pacey said.

As soon as the words left his mouth everyones eyes widened as the sound become even louder. Run, Pacey screamed.

Pacey grabbed Joeys hand and they started running with Dawson behind them. Pacey took off in the direction he thought was out of the cows path. They slipped, and stumbled in the mud, but Pacey held Joeys hand in a death grip practically dragging her through the mud.

The sound of the cow stampede just kept getting louder as the cows got closer to them. Pacey changed directions again hoping to evade the stampede. Joey stumbled, but Pacey hauled her back to her feet, and continued running.

The scream from behind them made Pacey stop. He looked over his shoulder, and panicked when he saw Dawson flailing in the mud. Pacey shoved Joey forward.

Keep going, he shouted.

No, I have to help Dawson, Joey argued.

Ill help Dawson. Now run, Pacey shouted. Joey was clearly scared as she looked into Paceys eyes. I promise Jo. Ill get Dawson, just go, Pacey pleaded more softly.

Joey hugged Pacey quickly before she started running again sliding in the mud, but willing herself to stay on her feet. Pacey watched to make sure she was running in the opposite direction before turning towards Dawson. The sound of the cows was deafening now.

Dawson was now on his feet, and making his way through the mud towards Pacey. Pacey took off towards him. Dawson slipped and fell again, and Pacey started running faster.

Dawson struggled to his feet, but before he could start running again the cows arrived. Dawson screamed as the cows plowed over him. He was knocked back onto the ground, and hoof after hoof trampled over him. Pacey watched in horror as the cow stampede ran over Dawson.

The Moral of the Story- Cows are really smart animals.
