Pacey what are you doing here? Joey asked completely caught off guard by his appearance in her kitchen.
I have something to tell you.
Joeys brow furrowed in confusion. But you're not supposed to be here Pacey.
Why not? Pacey inquired.
Becausewell youre not Joey stammered over her words.
Why not? Pacey pushed her challenging her to some up with a reason.
Its not in the script, Joey whispered.
Exactly, Pacey exclaimed. Have you read the scripts lately Jo?
Of course.
And? Pacey pressed.
And what? Joey asked in confusion.
What do you think about them?
I didnt really
Pacey cut her off. You didnt think about it. Its in the script so you just do it. I know I was like that too, but I started thinking this stuff they are having us do, and say its not us Jo. I mean like Id ever have a Dawson complex. Hes asexual.
Pacey, what are you saying?
What Im saying is Im tired of these scripts. Im tired of this crap they are making us do week after week. It may be Dawsons quote unquote creek, but these are our lives.
Okay so were tired of our storyline. Its not like we can anything about it.
Pacey pointed at her. Ah ha thats were you are wrong. We can something about it
What can we do? I mean yes I get tired of having to do scenes with Dawson, and I get tired of always having to have this sour expression on my face, and Im sick of having to act like you are not the best thing thats ever happened to me, and that I dont like having sex with you, but its in the script, Joey argued.
Jo, dont you want your spine back? Pacey implored looking Joey right in the eye begging her to understand him.
Yes, she whispered lowering her head in shame.
Then listen to me, help me. Pacey wrapped his arms around Joey and held her tightly. Trust me.
Joey looked up at Pacey tears in her eyes. I trust you.
~~~
Joey sat in the limo next to Pacey uneasiness washing over her. Pacey had laid out the plan to her, and she knew what she had to do, but she was still scared. She had lived by a script for 4 years, and she didnt know if she could deviate from it, but she trusted Pacey. She trusted Pacey with her life.
Pacey squeezed her hand in reassurance, and Joey smiled. She knew she could do this. She wanted to do this. It was going to be a prom none of them would forget.
~~~
Tears welled up in Joeys eyes as Pacey stood before her shouting the words she never wanted to hear though she knew they were coming. Even though she knew it wasnt how he felt, and it was what the script told him to say, it still hurt. She had to listen to his words though. She had to do this so she could be free.
Her lines flew out of her mouth automatically. They were well rehearsed, but even so she hated saying them. She hated it. She wanted nothing more then to wrap her arms around Pacey and kiss him until she died. Her only consolation was that after this was all said and done she could do just that. Well except the dying part.
She watched as Pacey stormed away from her. They had just broken up. It hurt even though it wasnt true. It hurt a lot and Joey didnt have any trouble acting like it hurt. She felt Dawsons arms around her, and her first instinct was to pull away. He repulsed her, but she had to let him comfort her. It was part of the script. Part of the plan.
She listened to Dawson, and when he stopped blathering on and on she told him she wanted to be alone. She really just wanted to get away from him, and meet up with Pacey again, but it was also part of the script. She walked away from Dawson shoulders slumped. She was supposed to go out on deck and stare out into the water until Dawson came to find her later. In reality she was going somewhere else.
Joey walked out onto the deck, but instead of going to the railing and waiting for Dawson she kept walking. A hand reached out and pulled her into a room. His lips descended down on hers instantly. Joey kissed him back desperately trying to kiss all the pain away. Finally needing to breath, Joey pulled away breathing heavily.
Did it go okay after I left? Pacey asked just as out of breath.
Joey smiled though her words were laden with emotion. It went as scripted.
Pacey pulled her close to him, and she rested her head on his shoulder. Im sorry.
Dont be. It had to be done, so that this can all end, and we can be together. Joey backed away from Pacey and looked into his eyes. Do you think its really going to work? she asked nervously.
Yeah I do.
Whats going to happen afterwards?
Were going to be together. Thats what you want right? Pacey asked desperately needing her to reassure him.
Joey rested her hand on his cheek. Thats all I want. Im just a little nervous about throwing out the script. I mean can we exist without the script? Have you thought about that?
I have, and when I went to your house yesterday I took that chance. I wasnt following the script, and nothing happened to me, and nothing is happening to us right now. Were going to be fine, he reassured her.
And Dawson?
What about Dawson? Pacey asked as jealousy, and apprehension crept into his voice.
Just what happens to Dawson?
He realizes his life isnt a poorly scripted melodrama, and he has to grow up and get over himself, and Jo thats not a bad thing.
I know. Its just this is going to hurt him, and while I am tired of him controlling me I cant be that indifferent to causing him pain.
Im not indifferent, and I dont want to hurt him Jo. If I thought he would listen to reason we wouldnt be doing this, but the only way he is going to accept that the world doesnt revolve around him is to show him that he cant script our lives.
I know.
Last chance Jo, are we doing this or not? Pacey asked as he held his breath waiting for her answer.
Her answer was to reach out, and slide his jacket off his shoulders. It fell onto the floor as her hands quickly moved down his dress shirt unbuttoning the buttons along the way.

Dawson strolled out onto the deck of the boat a self satisfied smile on his face. His eyes searched the deck, and when he didnt see Joey his brow furrowed in confusion. She was supposed to be out here waiting for him to comfort her, and make everything okay. She was supposed to be waiting for him to save her.
Dawsons faced scrunched up further as he became more perplexed at not seeing Joey anywhere. He wandered out onto the deck thinking maybe she was further down. He figured she got confused about where she was supposed to be. He didnt like it that her fight with Pacey would make her forget where she was supposed to meet him, but hed let it slide since he knew what was in store for their future.
Dawson wandered further down the deck. Joey had to be here somewhere he just had to find her. He wasnt going to let her ruin his hero moment. No he wasnt going to allow it. He deserved this moment. It was rightfully his. After all it was his creek, and he should be the one everyone loved not Pacey.
He heard a noise behind a closed door, and he crept closer. A smile spread on his face as he thought that maybe Joey was going to surprise him and wanted to be somewhere a little more private. He didnt really like not following the script, but if it meant hed get some time alone with Joey he would go with the flow.
He rested his hand on the door, and took a deep breath. He knew exactly what he was going to say and it was brilliantly scripted. He opened the door slowly ready to swoop in a fix all her problems because he was Dawson. Thats what he did.
Light spilled into the room as he pushed the door open, and as the light flooded the small room what Dawson saw nearly gave him a heart attack. He had her pressed up against a wall her legs wrapped around his waist her head was tilting to the side as he devoured her neck, and he was inside of her. Dawson just stared at them in disbelief. They were so wrapped up in each other they didnt seem to notice him standing there.
Finally his nostrils flared, as anger consumed him. What the hell is going on? he screamed.
Pacey and Joey stopped moving, and looked at Dawson as shock, and panic washed over them. This wasnt the plan. They were just supposed to be half undressed, and making out when Dawson found them, but they got a little too carried away in the moment. The plan had vanished from their minds as they lost themselves in each other.
Get away from her, Dawson screamed.
Pacey shielded Joey from Dawsons view as she scrambled to slip on her dress, and he pulled his pants on.
Joey how could you? He said all those things, and broke up with you. You were supposed to be waiting for me, Dawson cried as smoke started to seep out of his ears.
Dawson Im sorry, Joey started.
Sorry. Youre sorry? This wasnt in the script, Dawson ranted as the smoke got thicker.
Dawson dude calm down your combusting, Pacey warned.
Dont tell me what to do, Dawson threatened Pacey but it came out more like a girly shriek. Turning back to Joey. How could you do THAT with HIM.
Dawson you already knew I was doing THAT with HIM, Joey answered calmly.
The smoke was starting to fill the room as it was now pouring off of Dawson. Its not possible. I mean you said you were, but you were lying. Youve been lying all season. You cant be doing THAT. No one can do THAT.
Pacey was getting annoyed. Look Dawson weve been doing THAT for nearly four months. So youre just going to have to get over it.
No, Dawson screamed for the last time as his body was engulfed in flames.
Within seconds his body burst into a million ashes. They fluttered around in the air as Pacey and Joey stared at where Dawson used to be in complete shock. Jen and Drue came running over, and stopped right outside the doorway.
What happened? Jen asked worried.
Dawson just self combusted, Pacey said quietly still stunned. There was a moment of silence as the 4 of them watched the ashes floating in the air before Pacey grinned. It was pretty cool.
The three of them turned to Pacey is shocked horror before bursting out laughing.
Well this episode is called Promicide I guess someone had to die, Drue joked through his laughter.
When the laughter quieted down, Jen turned serious. So what happens now? I mean it was his creek.
I dont know, Pacey said with a shrug. Maybe itll be Paceys Pond now.
No, Jen said with a shake of her head. Im liking the sound of Jens Jungle.
We dont live in a jungle Jen, Joey argued.
Well we could now couldnt we? Jen shot back.
Personally, Im like the sound of Drues Dock, Drue cut in.
Youre not even in the credits, Jen argued.
Yeah well Andie is in the credits, and shes not even on the show, Drue reasoned.
Good point, Jen admitted.
A smile spread across Joeys face. You know what guys?
What? Pacey asked putting his arm around her shoulders.
We dont need a script. We dont need a show. We can do whatever we want.
And what do you want to do Potter? Pacey asked.
Joey turned her head and looked at Pacey with a seductive smile. Finish what we were doing before we were so rudely interrupted.
Pacey raised an eyebrow. You know Im thinking the new show should be called the Pacey and Joey Sexcapades.
I like the sound of that.
