"Syntax Error"
Sierra Radio Special
On the 7th of
November 2002, the radio program Syntax
Error broadcasted a special show entirely dedicated to old Sierra game
music on Sweden's no. #1 national radio channel P3.
This show was the result of a cooperation between me and the creator of
the show, Thomas Sol Sunhede. It originally began as I sent him an email
in response to an earlier show that had featured the main title theme from
Police
Quest 3 played on the AdLib music card. I asked him if he'd be interested
in playing more Sierra music, and provided him with a summary of Sierra's
musical history to emphasize my point. He sent me a reply telling me that
he would like to dedicate an entire show to Sierra music, which was even
more than I had hoped for! Naturally, I was delighted to hear this and
sent him some more material, suggesting what songs to play and what things
to tell about Sierra. The end result was a nearly half hour show full of
wonderful Sierra music and interesting facts about the company's past,
present and future. I even got this website promoted in the show, which
was very cool!
Syntax Error was
a Swedish radio show playing music from video- and computer games, demoscene
music, nostalgic TV and movie music, synth music, music sent in by the
listeners etc. Basically everything that was oldschool, retro and NOT mainstream
had a chance of being played there. Unfortunately it was cancelled after
its 100th episode, but it may be converted into a TV show instead and in
any case it is still active on the Internet. Naturally, the show has collected
a loyal group of listeners and has a certain cult status to it, being tuned
in to by lots of people from abroad just because there isn't anything like
it where they live.
The Sierra
special can be downloaded here
as a high-quality mp3 file (48mb) or in a smaller version with less quality
(9 mb). Please note that the show is in Swedish, so don't be surprised
if you don't understand what is being said in it. However, you may still
find it interesting to listen to. It is a pretty good summary of Sierra's
musical history in the years between 1989 and 1995. I am working on an
English translation to be uploaded here.
