King's Quest VI:
Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow
Introduction
When Prince Alexander met Princess
Cassima of the Land of the Green Isles in Mordack's castle after
his father defeated the evil wizard and saved both his family and the princess
from his evil clutches, he instantly fell in love with her. He introduced
himself and was invited to come and visit her sometime soon. Then she was
magically returned to the Land of the Green Isles and the royal family
back to Daventry by the wizard Crispin. But as he returned home,
Prince Alexander learned that the location of the Land of the Green Isles
was unknown. Only a few references to the land could be found, and they
were mostly treating it as a fairy-tale and was not of much help. However,
he was lucky enough to find the travel accounts of a man named Derek
Karlavaegen that described the many strange people and places in the
land in great detail. It didn't say much about how to get to the land though,
and pointed out that it was surrounded by treacherous reefs that made sea
travel to and from it almost impossible. With months passing since his
meeting with Cassima, Alexander grew more and more troubled as he just
couldn't get her out of his head.
It was at that time assistance came,
like it had so many other times before to members of the royal family,
from the Magic Mirror. With a flash of light, the image of Cassima appeared
in it. She was standing in a window looking at the night sky, calling out
for Prince Alexander with a very troubled look in her face. Then the image
faded. But Alexanders had already taken note of the stars above Cassima's
head, constellations he could use to navigate to the Land of the Green
Isles.
It didn't take long before Alexander
had assembled a crew of brave men and set sail for the Land of the Green
Isles. For three months, they sailed the known seas and beyond, searching
for the Land of the Green Isles. And one day, while standing on the deck
and looking through his telescope, Alexander saw the faint outlines of
land near the horizon. They set sail for the unknown mass of land. But
as they came closer to it, day turned to night and a powerful storm overwhelmed
them. As the ship approached land, it reached the surrounding reefs and
was smashed to pieces. Prince Alexander lost consciousness, and when he
awoke he found himself to be lying on a sandy beach surrounded by debris
from the wrecked ship. No trace of his crew was to be found.
