King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder
Introduction

After many troubled years, Daventry is once again restored to peace with the royal family reunited and King Graham again in good health. One beautiful spring day, King Graham set out to take a walk in the woods. When he was away, a wizard magically appeared out of thin air outside the castle of Daventry. Waving his want, he caused a storm over the castle. Suddenly, the castle was drawn up in the air, swirling into the sky, and disappeared. And so did the wizard.

King Graham suddenly felt a sharp wind blowing from the east that whirled up sticks and leaves into his path and startled the birds into silence. Feeling uneasy, he started walking back to the castle. As he arrived, he was horrified to find nothing but empty space where the castle had just stood.

As he stood there in cold fear, a voice came from a tree above. "Whoo-hoo, I can tell you what happened to your castle!". The voice came from an owl, dressed in a vest and a monocle. The owl introduced himself as Cedric, and he told Graham what he had seen happening. Cedric also knew that the vizard's name was Mordack, and that he was both powerful and evil. But why Mordack would do this against the royal family of Daventry was a mystery to both Cedric and Graham. Cedric also knew of a way to help King Graham. His master was the old wizard Chrispinophur, (or Crispin for short) and he could maybe help King Graham. But Crispin lived in the land of Serenia, far from Daventry. Fortunately, Cedric carried with him a little fairy dust that would give King Graham the ability to fly for a while. He sprinkled it in the air above the King and soon they were both flying to Serenia.

The fairy dust wore off just as they were closing in on Crispin's house, and King Graham fell into a pond outside the house with a splash. Crispin ame out of the house and invited him inside for a cup of tea. King Graham told him what had happened. All crispin could do though, was to give King Graham an old piece of magical white snake to eat. With it, he would be able to communicate with animals. Also, King Graham was offered Crispin's old wand that seemed to have lost most of its power. But he told King Graham that wands were almost like pets, and if he hang on to it, it might prove useful someday. He also told Cedric to follow King Graham and show him the way in the country. King Graham thanked the old man and left the house.

Cedric thought that the best place to start his quest would be the small town nearby. And thus a long and perilous quest began...
