King’s Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella
Introduction

Continuing right where King's Quest III: To Heir is Human ended, King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella begins with King Graham's old adventurer's cap in mid-air between Prince Alexander and Princess Rosella. But before any of them can catch it, King Graham falls to the ground, feeling a terrible, squeezing pain in his chest.

Seeing King Graham lying in his bed, waiting for death with his family gathered around him was too much for Princess Rosella, who ran to the throne room to grieve alone. Suddenly, she heard a voice coming from the magic mirror. Looking into it, she saw the image of a very beautiful fairy. The fairy told her that her name was Genesta, and that she lived in the land of Tamir. In this land, there was a tree that took a hundred years to bear a single fruit. This fruit had the power to give health and prosperity for many years to anyone who ate it. This fruit could save the life of King Graham, and Genesta could take Rosella to Tamir with her magic in an instant.

But if she was willing to come to Tamir, Rosella had also to help Genesta with a problem before she could be returned to Daventry. Seeing no other possibility to save her dying father, Rosella accepted, and was magically transported to a faraway shore in the land of Tamir, face to face with the beautiful fairy.

Rosella learned that Genesta, who lived on an island in the ocean outside of Tamir, had been walking in the forest one day when the evil fairy, Lolotte, sneaked up on her and stole her magical talisman. Without the talisman, Genesta had only 24 more hours to live. She was already too weak to attempt to take the talisman back herself. However, she believed that Rosella would be able to sneak into Lolottes domain and get the talisman back. Rosella also learned that the magical fruit could be found on a small island in a vast swamp beyond the great mountains in the east. But before she could return home with it, she had to help Genesta, who's powers were already too weak to send Rosella back to Daventry.

As not to attract attention, Genesta magically transformed Rosella's royal gown into the clothes of a peasant girl and then flew back to her island with her last powers.

And the adventure begins...
