King’s Quest III: To Heir is Human
Introduction

King’s Quest III: To Heir is Human begins in a very different way than the first two games: A very old and evil wizard named Manannan living in a house on the top of a mountain in the land of Llewdor didn't want to soil his hands with household work. His solution was to kidnap a young boy and train him as his personal slave. But as the boy grew older, he started to poke around the house and even sneak out of the house and down the mountain to explore the surrounding countryside. When the boy was 18 years old, Manannan found him practicing magical spells. That was too much, and he transformed him into a pile of ashes.

Manannan then kidnapped another young boy from a faraway country and trained him as a slave. He now punished the boy severely every time he did something he wasn't allowed to. The boy grew to become more obedient, but nonetheless Manannan killed him on his 18th birthday just to be on the safe side.

The years went on, and Manannan kidnapped more young boys and trained them as slaves, killing them on their 18th birthday, or even earlier if they gave him more problems than usual. It took a lot of effort but it was the best solution he could come up with.

As the game starts, you take on the role of Gwydion, 17 years old and the latest slave of Manannan. Gwydion wonders who he really is and where he comes from. He dreams of escaping from his evil master, and considering his imminent 18th birthday he doesn't have much choice if he wants to stay alive...
