One day when looking into the Magic Mirror, an image of King Edward, the previous king, appeared before Graham's eyes. He told King Graham it was time to find a queen and provide the kingdom with an heir, or Daventry would soon grow weak again.
King Graham consulted his prime minister Gervain, who suggested that Graham should host a celebration and invite all the maidens of marriageable age in Daventry to it. Maybe then he could find his queen.
Every maiden in the kingdom came to the celebration, that lasted for two days, but no one touched Graham's heart, and they all returned home.
But later, when Graham was standing near the Magic Mirror, its glass became cloudy and when the mist cleared, an image of a maiden appeared. She had glowing auburn hair, midnight blue eyes and creamy skin. She was the maiden Graham had longed for. But she looked unhappy, and Graham asked the Magic Mirror where she could be found. The mirror replied that her name was Valanice and that she was from the kingdom of Kolyma, where she was known for her goodness no less than her beauty. But she had been taken away to an enchanted land by the jealous witch Hagatha, who imprisoned her in a quartz tower and set a ferocious beast to guard her.
King Graham
declared that he had to rescue her, and the mirror then replied that Graham
first had to travel to Kolyma and find three keys that could unlock three
doors, leading to the enchanted land where Valanice was imprisoned. Graham
replaced the crown on his head with his old adventurer's cap, packed his
provisions and bravely set out on the long journey to the kingdom of Kolyma...
