Character Applied for: Narcissa (Black) Malfoy Description of Character's Personality: Narcissa is, at heart, a snob. Partly, this is due to her being from an old pureblood family (she's nowhere near as fanatical as her sister Bellatrix, but she does believe in pureblood superiority); it's also due to the wealth and prestige her marriage to Lucius brought her. She's very much enjoyed being the lady of Malfoy Manor, and while she hasn't suffered materially from her husband's arrest, she feels very keenly the loss of standing in the wizarding community. Narcissa has always been content to let Lucius do all the dirty work; she hasn't wanted to soil her hands with any Death Eater business, though of course she's been well aware of - and completely approves of - her husband's involvement with Voldemort. She has done her best to appear spoilt, vain, and less intelligent than she really is. The first two are, of course, at least somewhat true, but underneath it all, she's stronger and more sensible than most people would give her credit for. She is genuinely fond of Lucius - not passionately in love with him, but she does care for him; and she is very proud of Draco. She's been a very inconsistent mother, however, doting at times, and then, when she bores with playing the devoted parent, she all but ignores him. Narcissa doesn't care for very strong displays of emotion - she finds them in poor taste. Important Backstory, if any: Narcissa is, of course, from a very old and very pureblood family. Her sister Andromeda betrayed the family - and in fact, pureblood wizards in general - by marrying Ted Tonks, in Narcissa's opinion; Narcissa does her best to forget Andromeda ever existed, and quite definitely loathes her. Her opinion of her sister Bellatrix is higher, but Bellatrix's fanaticism unnerved Narcissa *before* Bellatrix went to Azkaban, and she finds her even more disturbing now - in large part due to Narcissa's strong distate for emotional displays. However, after the events at the end of Order of the Phoenix, when Bellatrix sought refuge at Malfoy Manor, Narcissa didn't hesitate to take her in. Sample Journal Entry: [Private Entry] I am truly going to enjoy the look on that Malkin cow's face when Lucius and the others return to putting upstarts like her in their places. Not wanting to sell to "my kind," indeed. It's been months. Surely Lucius must escape soon; his place is here, not rotting in Azkaban, and surely he is needed? Bellatrix seems to think it's only a matter of time, but one can never be sure of what Bellatrix says; she may be talking about something else entirely. Draco hasn't owled since he returned to school last month. I'm beginning to be somewhat concerned.
