Character Applied for: Bellatrix Lestrange (nee Black) Description of Character's Personality: Bellatrix is a cross between fiercely loyal and insanely unhinged. She is completely arrogant, even wearing an 'arrogant, disdainful smile' in a picture of her post-Azkaban. Her laughter is mad and her voice harsh and shrill. She is one of the Death Eaters, of course, one of Voldemort's most treasured followers. She has an absolutely passionate hatred for anything 'less', in her eyes, than pureblood. This includes her traitor of a sister, Andromeda, who betrayed everything the name of Black stands for by marrying a Muggleborn. Unlike some, it was not years in Azkaban that cost Bellatrix - Bella, to Voldemort - her sanity, though it worsened her already loose state of mind. Even before then, she was dangerously unhinged - a fanatical worship of Voldemort coupled with a firm belief in the inferiority of the non-pureblood race of wizards and witches rather turned her mind. Bellatrix is a sadist. She enjoys causing pain - not only did she enjoy torturing the Longbottoms with Crucio for the sake of learning information about the whereabouts of Voldemort, she enjoyed it for the sheer pleasure of it. In addition to this, she is quick to temper and use her wand - in the fight in the Department of Ministries, Order of the Phoenix, she shrieks at Harry about using Voldemort's name before quickly angering too far and attempting to hit him with 'stupefy'. Any mark on her Lord's name - his name being uttered by anyone, let alone a *halfblood*, is almost too much for her to bear. Important Backstory, if any: Bellatrix is very pureblood; one of the three Black sisters with Narcissa and Andromeda, though she isn't like either. Andromeda, of course, married a Muggleborn and was cast out of the family, while Narcissa, completely unlike Bellatrix, is content to be the wife of a Death Eater without ever getting her own hands dirty. Bellatrix took the Mark in the build up to the first war, with her husband, Rodolphus Lestrange. It seemed only natural to her - she subscribed very much to the theory of pureblood superiority, and the thought of purging wizarding Britain - and potentially the world - of those less than she, was very, very appealing. The most significant event in the first war for Bellatrix was the capture and torture of Frank Longbottom, at the time a very well respected auror. She, and three others, were seeking knowledge of Voldemort's whereabouts - which they were certain Longbottom had. To get to him, they also tortured his wife Alice; and Bellatrix, for one, delighted in it. This memory was definitely one to get her through Azkaban - that, and the knowledge that Voldemort would be strong again and they would be rewarded for their loyalty. At the end of Order of the Phoenix, Bellatrix kills her cousin Sirius. This is a triumph in many, many ways: it will please her Lord, and also, to her, it is a way of getting back at the Muggle-lovers and blood traitors - Sirius, though not as significant a blood traitor to her as Andromeda - is someone she hates most passionately - she sarcastically calls him 'dear cousin' several times. She hates him, among other reasons, because he has had so much credit for being a supporter of Voldemort when he is a *dirty blood traitor*. She won't ever feel an ounce of anything but delight that she did that. After the escape from the Department of Mysteries, Bellatrix is lying low as Voldemort strengthens and gathers forces. She is living at Malfoy Manor; Kreacher has left 12 Grimmauld Place and is now living with Bellatrix and Narcissa, both of whom he completely adores.
