Oakly Mountain

This trail system has just been redone and is now in much better condition. If you have ever been
here and didn't want to come back because it was too rocky, the rocky sections have now been
bypassed and the trail is much smoother and more enjoyable. In addition to the trail upkeep one
of the parking areas has been paved. However there is now a $5 parking fee to park your vehicle
in the parking lots. Before you get mad about the fee just think about how smooth the trail is
now. This trail as most other trails in Georgia is close during the winter month from January 1st
till March 31. This trail system is actual three separate trails that interconnect totaling 14.9
miles. I explored many lesser side trails that added up to many additional miles. Some parts of
these trails are steep so use caution.  If you are riding a dual sport motorcycle there is only a short paved ride to get to Stonewall falls.
This trails system is just a few miles from Tallulah Gorge. This is a neat place that the
sightseer would will like. If you would like to go into the gorge get there early because only 100
people a day can go into the gorge. If you don't want to hike in you can look in from the visitor
center. The visitor center is also were you must go to get you pass in the gorge.

Trail near the beginning, many parts are steeper and rockier

Directions to north parking lot: From Clayton, go west on U.S. 76 for 6.8 miles. Turn left
on Charlie Mountain Road and proceed until it dead ends. Turn right on Bridge Creek Road
and go 2 miles, where the road dead ends at Lake Burton Dam Road. Turn right and drive
1.6 miles to the entrance road on the left.
